The Swine Flu Prevention Guide



This is a quick listing of what steps you should take right away to increase your chances of preventing swine flu – detailed explanations of everything listed here is contained in the following pages – this is just a quick listing to get you started right away. Of course, anyone with a fever, a cough, a sore throat, shortness of breath or muscle and joint pain needs to seek immediate medical attention from a doctor—this guide is here to help you avoid swine flu—professional medical attention is needed immediately to cure and treat certified cases of the disease. Hand sanitizer containing alcohol – Get 3 bottles at least, one for home, one for your car, and one for your workplace. b. Several packages of sanitizing wipes containing alcohol. c. Several bottles of cheap hand soap – it does not matter if it is anti-bacterial or not—just buy whatever is on sale. d. Several boxes of disposable latex gloves. e. A couple of packages of surgical masks for every family member. f. A couple of bottles of hydrogen peroxide. g. A couple of bottles of rubbing alcohol. h. A bottle of iodine. i. Enough bottled water to last your family two weeks. j. Enough non-perishable food to last your family two weeks—canned food items are best.

A bag of fresh onions, a bag of fresh garlic, a bag of fresh ginseng, fresh broccoli, dandelion greens, and any other items you want that would make a nice stir-fry with these ingredients (beef, chicken, or fish). l. Refill any prescriptions you need that may be running low – try to have a 30-day backup supply on hand as well. m. Coconut Oil n. Cod Liver Oil o. Krill Oil (or Fish Oil if you cannot find Krill) p. One bottle for each family member: Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, A quality MultiVitamin. q. Olive-leaf extract. r. A good quality probiotic supplement – or lots of organic yogurt with live cultures. s. Raw, unprocessed honey t. Turmeric

2. Your best defense is a good offense when it comes to your immune system. Make sure you are eating properly—no sugar, no junk, etc. You must feed your immune system properly in order for it to function at full power. Try to eat some fresh garlic, onions, and ginseng at every meal – they are naturally anti-viral. Be creative with this. For instance, make a breakfast omelet with cheese and fresh chopped garlic, onions, and a little ginseng.

3. Make sure you are giving your body the supplements it need to function at full power and protect you – It is essential that you take a multi-vitamin, some extra Vitamin D, extra C, extra A, and either some Krill or Fish oil every day. Details about how powerful these supplements are and how they benefit you in times of flu outbreaks are listed in the main body of this report.

4. The most important rule you need to follow is to stay as clean and isolated as you possibly can during flu outbreaks. You need to wash your hands like your life depended on it—wash them constantly throughout the day, and especially after going out in public or shaking hands with someone else. Anything or anyone you touch with your hands has a chance of being infected. Never touch your eyes, mouth, or nose with unwashed hands – they make be infected, and the fastest way for infection to get into your body is through the eyes, nose, and mouth. When you wash your hands, use a lot of soap and wash like you’re preparing for surgery. Wash up your arms well past your wrists, wash for at least 60 seconds, and be extremely thorough – getting in between your fingers and under your fingernails. You also need to wash your face and ears – the virus will try to enter your body any way it can, and the most common pathways are the ears, nose, eyes, and mouth. I wipe down my face, ears with a store-bought alcohol-based facial wash like Sea Breeze™ on a cotton ball, and then apply a little lotion to prevent the alcohol from drying my skin. You must somehow get your children to wash and sanitize their hands and face the same way. Maybe you can make some type of game out of it—see who can wash their hands the longest, see who can rub the sanitizer over their hands the fastest before it dries up, etc. If there is a recognized outbreak in your local area, don’t leave your home unless you absolutely have to, and if you do leave, make sure you wear your surgical mask and disposable latex gloves. When you get back home, dispose of the mask and gloves and wash up immediately. To insure your hands are absolutely clean, wash thoroughly with soap and water, dry, and THEN use your alcohol hand sanitizer to get anything you may have missed. Don’t forget to sanitize everything in your home that could have been infected by someone else. Telephone handsets, cell phones, computer keyboards, doorknobs, faucet knobs, remote controls, etc. Go around your home and sanitize everything that anyone ever touches or has ever touched on a daily basis. Do the same thing in your workplace, take an extra bottle of hand sanitizer or some sanitizing wipes and wipe down EVERYTHING at your desk including phones, computer mice, keyboards, pens, whiteboard markers, door knobs, etc. Every surface you touch is a potential enemy in the war against the flu virus. Use your sanitizer after using public machines like ATM machines or vending machines – these things are swarming with filthy viruses and bacteria since they are NEVER CLEANED by anyone. 5. Avoid anyone who seems ill, even if you look rude doing so – your health is much more important than appearing strange or rude. If someone is sneezing and coughing, get the heck out of there and sanitize your hands immediately. Influenza is thought to spread mainly personto-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people, and the swine flu is no different—it came to the United States via Mexico and was spread from person to person the whole way. Never cough or sneeze without covering your mouth with at least your hand or at best a tissue that you can immediately throw away. Sneezing and coughing sprays hundreds of thousands of tiny droplets of infected liquids all around the immediate area, and can infect dozens of people at a time. If you see someone sneezing or coughing without covering up, ask them nicely to please cover up and share some tissues with them. Prevention is an important part of remaining healthy during an outbreak. If you think you are sick, and maybe even have the flu or swine flu, STAY AT HOME. DO NOT GO OUT IN PUBLIC AND EXPOSE OTHERS! THE ONLY REASON YOU SHOULD LEAVE YOUR HOME IS TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.

If you must leave your home, wear your latex gloves and surgical mask to protect those around you. Stay as far away from everyone as you can, and don’t touch anything unless you absolutely have to. This is why you should never read the magazines in a doctor’s waiting room – if you could see them on a microscopic level they would be crawling with bacteria and viruses from sick patients waiting for their turn to see the doctor. This seems like common sense, but you need to avoid all travel to infected locations until the outbreak subsides and is over. For example, right now is not the time to go to Mexico! Even if you’ve had that Spring Break trip planned for a year, there is no way you should be traveling to Mexico right now, as it is at the center of the swine flu outbreak! Many airlines, including Continental, US Airways and American Airlines, are waiving cancellation fees on tickets to Mexico.

6. Stay informed and plan ahead. You need to have the latest information about any outbreaks in your area and exactly where they are. One excellent resource for this is a google maps mashup that shows all certified cases of swine flu, and also tells you whether or not each case resulted in death – this is extremely valuable information, and should be added to your bookmarks immediately. Your locality may close schools, workplaces, etc. in order to contain the spread of the swine flu. The map starts off centered on the U.S. and Mexico because that’s where the outbreak started, but you can drag the map around with your mouse to look at the rest of the world and see how the swine flu is spreading everywhere – for instance, as of this writing, I can see cases in Spain, Australia, New Zealand, France, Israel, Canada, and the U.K. – this swine flu is no joke, and should be treated with the utmost caution. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a section of their website dedicated to swine flu as well. The U.S. declared a public health emergency Sunday, April 26, 2009 to deal with the emerging new swine flu outbreak. WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said the outbreak in Mexico and the United States was evolving quickly and was a very serious situation. She said it had "pandemic potential" because it is an animal virus strain infecting people.

This latest swine flu variant is a brand new mixture of human virus, bird virus, and pig viruses from all over the world. Experts say it's particularly worrisome because people are getting sick without any encounters with pigs. Even worse, young, healthy people (ages 2040) are dying at a striking rate, a telltale sign of the worst flu epidemics. DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY.

7. The communicable distance for most flu viruses is about five feet, so keep your distance in order to avoid spreading the disease. If dealing with a flu case at home, make sure the flu sufferer (and everyone who interacts with this person) wears facial masks and latex gloves to lower the chances of spread. If your local area becomes infected, your government agencies may start shutting down schools, shopping centers, and even grocery stores to try to contain the outbreak – this is why you need to be fully stocked up in terms of food, water, medicine, and anything else your family needs to survive for weeks without leaving your home. 8. Hand Sanitizer containing alcohol – you should keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times and use it after touching any surface, object, or person that you have not personally cleaned and sanitized in the past hour. Whenever you do not have convenient access to soap and water you need to sanitize your hands and face with alcohol-based sanitizer. Just following this one rule will protect you more than you can possibly comprehend. Play a game with yourself and imagine that you can actually see all of the viruses and bacteria that are crawling all over every surface around you (they really are) – how disgusted would you be? You wouldn’t be able to wait to wash your hands! One of the dirtiest, filthiest things you could ever touch is money – both paper money and coins. The money in your wallet or purse is much dirtier than your toilet, because it has never been cleaned, not even one time! Think about how many people have handled that cash before it came to you, and think about all the nasty places it could have been. You must wash and sanitize your hands after handling cash money, and you should try to use a credit card whenever possible to avoid handling that filthy cash.I just got back from the grocery store filled with snot-nosed kids, coughing and sneezing adults, and a shopping cart that has probably never been cleaned properly since the day it was put into service. You can bet that the first thing I did when I got home was wash and sanitize my hands – I couldn’t get to the sink fast enough. This is the attitude you and your family need to have towards germs in order to protect yourselves. 2. Several packages of alcohol sanitizing wipes. These things are great, and you should use them all the time to wipe down all surfaces that you plan to come in contact with – doorknobs, keyboards, phones (earpieces and mouthpieces, as well as the number keys), faucet handles on sinks, car keys, your steering wheel, computer mice, remote controls (especially in hotel rooms since they are NEVER cleaned), etc. Just wipe down everything you see that could be touched or used by anyone in your family. The more sanitary you become, the more you are protected from invading germs. Remember, NEVER touch your face, rub your eyes, itch inside of your ears, or pick your nose with dirty hands. This gives the flu virus a direct path to the inside of your body. Take a moment to wash or sanitize your hands before scratching that itch inside of your ear. 3. Several bottles of cheap hand soap. Put a bottle by every sink in your home and office, and use them religiously – you cannot wash your hands often enough when there is a flu outbreak in the area. The type of soap does not matter, because the soap really doesn’t do anything except create a lubricated surface for the germs and viruses to wash off easier. They physical rubbing and washing motion is what sweeps all that junk off of your skin and down the drain. It goes without saying that you should never leave a bathroom without washing your hands, but studies show that about one-fifth of all men and one-sixth of all women do not wash their hands after using the facilities. This is disgusting news, and is one reason that these outbreaks move so quickly throughout the population. Doctors are even stating that we should not be using anti-bacterial soaps and lotions because all we are doing is creating super-bugs that are immune to the anti-bacterial compounds in the soaps. This is fine with me, because the plain, generic brands that are not anti-bacterial are cheaper so I can buy more. 4. Latex gloves and surgical masks. If there is an active outbreak in your area and you MUST go out for groceries or supplies, then you should wear your latex gloves and surgical mask. Do your errands, then stop in your garage when you get home, throw away the gloves and the mask, wash up, and then sanitize with the alcohol gel before you touch anything in your home. NEVER re-use the gloves or the mask after you have been in the outside world with them – they may be infected.
Make sure you sanitize anything you touched with the gloves before you threw them away – the door handle on your car, your steering wheel, the doorknob to your house, etc. The surgical mask will not stop all viruses, but it will stop the spray of a cough or sneeze from going straight into your mouth. Also, if you are the one who is sick you should always wear your mask so that your cough or sneeze does not infect anyone else. The latex gloves will stop just about anything, but make sure to throw them out after every use.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide, Rubbing Alcohol, and Iodine. Most viruses and bacteria cannot survive in the presence of any of these three substances, which is what makes them so powerful in your medicine cabinet. Hydrogen Peroxide is excellent for soaking your toothbrushes overnight so that they are germ free the next morning – just make sure to rinse them well with clean water before brushing. At the first sign of flu symptoms, put a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide into each ear, one ear at a time. Keep the solution in for 10 minutes or until the bubbling stops. The bubbling in your ear will sound very loud and will be slightly uncomfortable. Your temperature should start dropping within minutes, and your flu should be gone within 12 to 14 hours. I’ve used this method several times, and can personally attest that it is almost magical in its effectiveness. I’m not sure if the virus is trying to attack the body through every opening, including the ear canal, but this crushes it immediately! To increase the effectiveness even more, add some extract of Echinacea and Goldenseal to the Hydrogen Peroxide. The anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial action of these herbs is well documented in clinical literature. Use the rubbing alcohol to disinfect things like fingernail clippers, tweezers, cuts, scrapes, etc. to prevent them from becoming contaminated or infected. Use the iodine to disinfect any wounds, scrapes, cuts, etc. you may get. Clean the area with rubbing alcohol, and then apply iodine, and then a bandage. 6. Bottled Water and Food Supply for 2 Weeks. This is something you should have on hand at all times, no matter what the situation is, but it becomes critical in times of flu or swine flu outbreaks. If there is an outbreak in your local area and the authorities decide to shut down the malls, stores, schools, etc. where will you go to get supplies? You need to assume that you will have to fend for yourself, and so should stock up in advance. A two week supply of food, water, and prescription medicines for every member of your family (including pets) is the bare minimum you should have on hand – the more the better, and if you can have at least a month or even 3 months supply on hand you’ll sleep much better at night. 7. Onions, Garlic, Ginseng, Broccoli, Dandelion Greens. These foods are all naturally anti-viral, and should be eaten fresh or only slightly cooked at every opportunity during an outbreak in your area. These foods will keep your immune system firing on all cylinders and help disinfect your body naturally at the same time. Of course, it can be difficult to eat raw garlic and onion, but if you whip them up into a nice chicken stir-fry where everything is cooked with a very high heat for a very short time, you can still get most of the benefits of the raw versions without the bitter flavors. Try to work some or all of these into every meal you eat. 8. Coconut Oil is packed full of extremely powerful antimicrobial agents, effective against a broad range of pathologic bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeasts and protozoa. Make sure you get organic, virgin coconut oil. The lauric acid content of virgin coconut oil typically runs 50-55 percent making it a particularly potent antimicrobial. Use it to cook with in place of butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, etc. Drizzle it over salads – use it everywhere you can think of and it will help you stay healthy during an active outbreak in your area. 9. Drink one cup several times a day if you are able to stay home and rest and one or two cups at night, otherwise just drink at night. Best taken at the beginning of flu symptoms.
